VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Bush/dry. Great flavor and texture as a dry bean. Bush habit. Plants measure 1.2-1.7' tall. Light pink flowers. Light green, straight pods mature to light yellow. Fully expanded pods measure 4.3-5.6" long and 0.6" wide. Pods hold 4-5 seeds. Large seeds are kidney shaped and maroon with tan dashes. Low productivity when grown on Heritage Farm in 2018. Mid season maturity. Alice Schlaegel of Ohio began growing this variety in 1972 after she married. Alice received it from her aunt Shirley (Foster) Birtcher. Alice doesn't know when Shirley began growing the beans, but Shirley received the variety from her own mother (Alice’s grandmother) Prentice (Myer) Foster (born circa 1894). Alice uses it as a dry bean in soups and chili. SSE Accession # 133056
