VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole/ dry. Also known as the Angel Bean. Roundish white seed with a distinctive dark red to brown marking near hilum that looks like a monstrance or an angel. They have a short cooking time and do not need to be soaked and have a slight smoky flavor. Some say they originate in France. A French priest buried his church relics in the garden during the first World War to protect them. He then planted white beans over them. When the beans were ripe for picking and being shelled he discovered patterns similar to a monstrance on the beans. At the Heritage Seed Library in Coventry, England, they call these the ‘Angel Bean’, which were traditionally eaten at Christmas. They say that this is an old German variety that they would shell around Christmas to reveal a little angel around the hilum. 90 days, heavy producing vigorous plant will climb to 7 feet. My seed originally from IA FE S. 25 seeds per package.
