VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Pole lima. Large seeds with red-brown mottling on a white background. Fresh limas have outstanding, sweet flavor. Dry limas require a longer than average cooking time and have a very nice, sweet, nutty, earthy flavor. Pods are slightly curved and average 3.6" long. 3-4 seeds per pod. Mid-season maturing. Below average productivity on Heritage Farm in 2017. This heirloom variety has been grown by at least four generations of Annabel (Downing) Beery's family. It was passed down from her great-grandparents, Zachariah and Mary (Cecil) Stout, of Johnson County, Missouri. The Stouts grew it as early as the 1860s near the town of Cornelia, MO. When Annabel donated this variety to SSE in 1989, she recalled that her own mother remembered that the lima beans grew on the fence surrounding the garden at the Stout's (her grandparents) house. Previously distributed by SSE under the misspelled name 'Grandma Storrt's Speckled'. SSE Accession # 112684
