Rocambole rounds

Single Image
VEGETABLES / GARLIC
Rocambole type are bolting (producing a scape; don't remove it!), of which the tip is called spathe. Once the spathe opens, observe the size of the aerial bulbils. Please follow my Facebook group KENOSHA GARLIC COLLECTORS to learn more. We believe that the strength of garlic strains can be improved by propagating with aerial bulbils, instead of the bulb cloves. INSTEAD of planting the bulbils in the Fall, we plant them in the Spring! Without the vernalizing (frost) the plant will not divide to produce a bulb, but will produce a single round clove (A2R). We are experimenting by storing the small rounds and replanting them the following Spring to produce larger rounds (R2R). 2023 EDIT: I'm currently more interested in planting aerial bulbils of softneck strains (saved for early Spring plantings). I mail rocambole bulbils in the Summer, freshly harvested.
