B. napus (Siberian kale). Leaves tough but crunchy and crisp. Sweet flavor with a hint of bitterness. Younger leaves not bitter. Dark green leaves with low blistering and sparse hairs and dark to light purple petioles. Leaves elliptic with rounded toothed margins. Largest leaves 15.5-18.5" long and 5.5-8.5" wide. Moderate lodging and susceptible to black rot when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. This Russian kale is from the Greenpeace Experimental Farm in British Columbia, Canada which was a self-sufficient organic farming community founded in 1974 on Denman Island by Jim and Marie Bohlen. The Bohlens were two of the founders of the Greenpeace environmental organization in 1971. SSE Accession # 111107
