VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole bean with moderate climbing tendency. Dry bean. White flowers. Slightly curved, green pods become yellow and develop small red spots at maturity. Mature pods average 1.9"" long by 0.4"" in diameter. Not recommended as a snap bean. Green pods are fibrous with a suture string. Shelling beans have a standard flavor and somewhat tough skin. Dry beans have a sweet flavor and smooth texture. Beans require a longer than average cooking time. Leathery podded dry pods, averaging 1-4 seeds per pod. Brown, oval seeds. Mid-season maturing. This variety was donated to SSE by William Woys Weaver (PA WE W) who got the variety from John Fugate in 2002. Mr. Fugate received seeds from Roger Yarnall, resident of a Quaker community in Knox County, Tennessee. Mr. Weaver believes the variety likely dates to the 1820s. SSE Accession # 105663
