Red Cassata

This gorgeous looseleaf lettuce is deep, dark burgandy color. The lanceolate shaped leaves are long and narrow which makes them easy to harvest individually as needed. They have undulating leaf margins. The plants grow tall and the leaves arch downward from the central stem. This uniform variety measures 1ft tall and 1-1.5ft wide. This variety performs well in hot, dry conditions. The leaves are slightly tough and astringent, as well as lacking in sweetness. When used sparingly, they would be a good addition to a salad to give it some color. Mid season maturing. SSE Accession # 112205
