VEGETABLES / LETTUCE
LEAF
A large looseleaf lettuce that is a quick grower. Plants are 6.3-8.5" tall and 15-19.5" wide. Solid green leaves are spatulate in shape with some waviness along the margin and measure 9.5-11" long and 6-7.85" wide. White seeded. Early bolting when grown in 2015 at Heritage Farm. Best left to the chickens, as it is quite tolerant of adverse conditions and is a tough, thick leafed, robust variety. The flavor is bitter and vegetative with tough and grainy leaves. Donated to SSE by Steven West (OR WE S2) who acquired this variety from Sheryl Spangler (CA SP S). Spangler introduced this variety into the 1995 SSE Exchange and described the lettuce as a family heirloom. SSE Accession # 112273
