VEGETABLES / SQUASH
C.-PEPO
I call this squash Zucchino Rampicante Tromboncino (rough translation: Climbing Trumpet Zucchini). A very prolific and productive plant. If grown on a trellis, the squash can get to over 4 feet long and are straight with a bulbous end for seed. When grown on the ground, the plant can stretch to 25 feet, have roots at the nodes, and produce circular fruit. Either way, we harvest about a wheelbarrow of fruit per plant. We use this squash in the summer while in the green stage instead of regular zucchini. And in the ripe tan stage we bake them the same way we bake butternut squash, except we just cut off and toss the bulbous seed part into the compost pile. It will store all winter long in the cool basement. 25 Seeds.
