VEGETABLES / CORN
SWEET
Late maturing, white sweet corn. Shoepeg type kernels (kernels have a random arrangement on the ears and are not in straight rows). Tall plants, 9-10 feet tall. Purple stems. Zero to two tillers per plant. 2 ears per plant, sometimes 1 or 3. Medium-large ears, 5-8 inches long, 2 inches wide. Ears are pendant on the plant at seed maturity. Very long peduncles (up to 1.5 feet!). Husk cover is fair and husks are rather loose around the ears. Kernels are small (long but narrow) and give the sweet corn an interesting texture. Kernels are fairly tender and juicy but the flavor is not well developed. Slightly creamy texture. A novel corn with fair flavor. Donated to SSE by Glenn Drowns (IA DR G) who acquired this variety from Nichol's Garden Nursery in 1983. It was originally introduced in 1890 by S.D. Woodruff & Sons of Orange, CT.
