FRUITS-BERRIES-NUTS / APPLE
The fruit is medium to large with a round-conical shape. Skin is yellow, covered with pink stripes and blush. It is an excellent all-purpose apple that can be stored until spring. Ripens late season. DNA tested in 2023 and confirmed correct. Recent DNA analysis revealed that ‘Salome’ is genetically identical to the apples ‘Benton Red’ and ‘Collins’/’Cherryfield.’ Each name carries its own unique origin story, leaving the true provenance of this cultivar unknown. If the history of ‘Salome’ is accurate, this apple originated in Ottawa, Illinois, in 1853. SSE Accession # 134006
