VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Bush habit. Best used as a dry bean. Good earthy flavor and creamy texture. Green, slightly constricted pods measure 5.5-6.4' long and 0.6" wide. Large kidney shaped seeds are white, with maroon solider type eye pattern. Plants have bright green leaves and white flowers. Low productivity and mid season maturity when grown at Heritage Farm in 2017. Stephen Kendall of Bountiful, Utah, received this variety in 1981 from Hunter and Lillian Grimshaw of Enoch, Utah. Lillian explained to Kendall that they sought out the variety after her husband Hunter "got a yen" for the beans he'd had as a child (SSE estimates circa the 1910s/1920s). Luckily, they were able to get seeds from Hunter's uncle and another family who grew it. Stephen Kendall donated this variety to SSE in the early 1980s. SSE Accession # 102140
