From Curzio Caravati and Seed Savers Exchange, Heritage Farm. Tubers have light pink to light purple smooth to rough skin and cream colored flesh. Medium size tubers are up to 4.5 inches long, 2.5 inches long, and weigh up to 0.25 pounds. Delicious flavor. Very sweet, not bitter. Moderately starchy and waxy. Reportedly a good boiling and storage variety. Plants started from virus free tissue culture plantlets in 2019. A seedling of Rough Purple Chili, which was one of the original potatoes brought from South America to introduce blight resistance into commercially available potato varieties. Reverend Chauncy E. Goodrich of Utica, New York, introduced Garnet Chili in 1853, and quickly became one of the most widely used potatoes for breeding. SSE Accession # 133506.
