VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Bush bean, 10-14"" tall. Green stems and leaves. Pink flowers. Pods green when flat, yellow with a few red stripes at shelling stage, shattering type when dry. Pods are pear-shaped in diameter, straight, with long, straight beaks. Mature pods 3.5-5"" long, 0.5"" wide. Not a snap bean. As a shelling bean, somewhat difficult to shell; tastes somewhat like a lima. 2-4 seeds per pod. Seeds kidney-shaped, cream with maroon stripes and dashes. Dry beans have a meaty texture and slightly sweet and musty flavor. Early maturity when grown in 2013 at Heritage Farm. This variety was donated to SSE by the late Robert Lobitz (MN LO R) who purchased the bean in 2002 from the Abundant Life Seed Foundation. It was acquired by Abundant Life from Harry Morgan of Colorado who indicated the seeds were brought to Colorado in the 1880s by the Mortin family as they fled religious persecution in southwestern Virginia. It was named the Carr Bean after a family in that area. SSE Accession # 105472
