A. hypochondriacus. Plants short, 30-40" tall, but in previous years plants up to 6 ft. Fairly vigorous and erect. Inflorescence dense and spire-shaped with long side branches. Flowers amaranthine (dark red) in color. Foliage red and green variegated. Stems pink. Seeds round and white. Early maturing and some lodging occurred when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. This variety is from Plants of the Southwest (CV Pla) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. SSE Accession # 100022
