VEGETABLES / PEPPER
HOT
Very erect, vase-shaped plants with attractive dark purple foliage and stems. Some plants have green-purple rather than solid purple leaves. If saving seeds, only save seeds from the solid purple plants and not from plants with greener foliage. Fruit are uniformly small and pointed and ripen from dark purple (or purple-green) to orange-red to dark red. Fruit measure 0.75-1 inches long, 0.25-0.5 inches in diameter at maturity. Moderate to high heat with a little sweetness and fruitiness. Thick, juicy walls are crunchy when barely ripe but turn soft as fruit hang on the plant. Best used as an ornamental but peppers are also good for the kitchen. Donated to SSE by William Woys Weaver (PA WE W). This variety was given to his grandfather, H.R. Weaver, by Horace Pippen prior to 1947. SSE Accession # 117226
