Strongly climbing vines. Violet flowers. Purple pigmentation on stems, racemes and pod tips. Pods mature to dark purple. Long, pendant, slightly curved pods, 8-11" long by 0.5" wide. Good eaten green or dried, according to donor. Solid red, rhomboid seeds with black eye. Dry cowpeas have a good, slightly sweet flavor. Standard productivity. 11-18 seeds per pod. Mid-season maturing. Given to SSE by B.B. Cox, Jr. who obtained it through an advertisement. Likely grown since before 1960. SSE Accession # 108985
