Plum Tomato Italian Heirloom High Yield

This red PASTE tomato, 4 - 10 oz, is a companion for canning the Rizzi Softball Plum Tomato (which I also offer) and is used for its acidity and thicker pulp. Fruit is tart, with small seed chambers and a huge "heart." Shape often has a tip. The paste is produced directly against the skin of the fruit, so it is best to use a strong sieve to separate it from the parboiled fruits. Determinate, to 8 ft, unpruned. Fruits set lowest on the vines will be the largest, those higher up are lacking in flavor and size - I recommend to "top" the plant at 4 ft, and allow all low canes to form, rather than low suckering. Leaf branches are sturdy and support heavy fruits well in a climbing position, such as on a 4ft fence. Loves soil amended with organic matter. Must have cool roots and even moisture. Avoid foliage contact with any ground surface. Will produce until frost.
