Melothria Scabra

The "mouse melon" or "Mexican sour gherkin" of exotic seed catalogs; sandita in Spanish but it grows (naturalized) in many places here in the USA; annual but sometimes self-seeding. Tiny tart melons about the size of jelly beans; picked when green for pickling, or black for seed. Vines make good fence cover; leaves resemble cucumber but smaller. Called "Cucamelon" on the East Coast.
