Small plants with leaves that are dark green and round or slightly spoon shaped. Leaves are glossy, cupped and semi-erect. Inner leaves form a rosette. Plants reach 2" tall and 5" wide. This hardy winter salad green, also known as mache, is best sown in the fall and harvested the following spring. Flavor is best under cool, moist conditions. Hearty flavor and delicate texture. Plants suffer in the heat and bolted in late June in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Acquired by SSE in 2016 from W. Atlee Burpee Seed Co (CV Bu2). A variety by this name has been commercially available in the U.S. from at least 1981-2016. SSE Accession # 132960
