Brydon's Prize Red celery has also known as Brydon's Prize or Manchester Giant Red or Giant Red. This is an old variety that supposedly came from Manchester, England circa 1849. Smaller plants are up to 30 inches tall. Petioles are green with a reddish hue and more solid to the interior. Petioles are up to 0.5 inches wide. Plants are more semi-prostrate than upright. Very crisp variety with a stronger celery taste would be great for soups and stews. This variety is also frost tolerant. Acquired by SSE from Synergy Seeds of Willow Creek, CA.
