Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. Withee acquired this variety from RH Shumway Seed Company. Shumway listed this variety for the first time in 1934 and continued to offer it at least until 1975. A variety by this name was first introduced to the commercial seed trade by the Joseph Harris seed company in 1892. SSE Accession # 100992
