Large, blocky, red bell. Some variability in shape as is typical for older varieties. Generally 4 lobes but sometimes 3 or 5. Thick, crunchy flesh. Good flavor and moderately sweet. 6-10oz. Brix 7.8. Late maturing. Moderately productive. Plants reach 25-31" tall. Mid-maturing. Capsicum annuum. This accession matches the description of Bull Nose, Large Bell listed in Field and Garden Vegetables of America, 1863. Acquired by SSE from William Woys Weaver (PA WE W) who received this variety in 1994 from the Thomas Jefferson Center for Historic Plants; reportedly introduced in 1759 from India.
