VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Appalachian pole bean, edible snap when young. Very late ripening for me in 2021 dark red (burgundy) seed 3/8x5/16x5/16", shiny, in leathery wrinkled pods that shrink around them. Flowers light violet. 8-10' vines did okay in part shade. MI SC R reported (in record hot dry 2012 summer) "100% of seed matured 2/80% dry-down by frost from late May planting... 75-80 green 95-100 dry''. Similar to Kirschbohne seeds but smaller and rounder - 60/oz. Seed is from Jennings family in Tennessee and may need more sun. In 2016 plants were eaten by bugs (in MI and IA). Did not germinate in a dry June. Volunteered in 2020. 15-20 seeds from 2020 or 2021.
Kirschbohne is the same color and did better.
