Butterhead. Well-developed head. Dark green, round leaves have moderate surface blistering. Smooth leaf margins. Plants average 5" tall and 9" in diameter. Largest leaves average 4.5" long by 5.4" wide. Excellent texture and flavor. Sweet, no bitterness. Black seeded. Mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE by Maynard Kropf who received this variety from his grandparents, Samuel & Ella Kropf. They originally received it from a now unknown person in Stewardson, IL circa 1930; a family favorite. SSE Accession # 112542
