VEGETABLES / TOMATO
RED
A superb red currant tomato collected in the wild in 2002 on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos with my daughter Sara.
I wrote about this tomato in my book, "The Heirloom Tomato: From Garden to Table," (Bloomsbury 2008): "It's a sad day when, toward the end of September, the time comes to dismantle the plants - especially since Sara's namesake variety can still be found creating currant tomatoes by the thousands. I think this variety might be the most vigorous, crack-resistant, and prolific tomato in my garden."
In 2019, I decided to count the number of tomatoes on two Sara's Galapagos plants. One plant yielded 9750 tomatoes and the other yielded 11,410 tomatoes. This may be the most prolific tomato variety in the world. Brava, Sara!!
