Solanum aethiopicum. Also known as African eggplant, this is a different species than the common eggplant and will not cross pollinate. This variety has a slightly fishy taste which is not to most people's liking. Very unique in terms of taste, shape, and color. Small, cream-colored, oval fruit are produced in large numbers and have distinct grooves. 1-2 fruit per cluster. Fruit measure 2" long, 1.5" wide. Fruit turn bright orange-red at maturity. No prickles. Green calyx. Cream colored flesh. Plants are tall, growing 4-4.5'. Green leaves, stems, and petioles. Small, white flowers. Late maturing. Donated to SSE circa 2001 by Marianne Jones (TN JO M) who received this variety from Suzanne Ashworth (CA AS S). Suzanne received it from Paul Gardner (AUSL GA P). A variety by this name has been exchanged in the SSE Yearbook Exchange for at least 20 years. SSE Accession # 109632
