Donna Gardner

VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
Orvin Gardner gave me these beans in the spring of 2014. Orvin told me that his wife Donna received them from her mother-in-law whose mother's mother-in-law brought them over from England in the late 1800s. Orvin loves these shelling beans. Every year when they are ripe, he shells them and pressure cans them for eating later in the winter. Bjorn's Description: (Phaseolus vulgaris) Vermont Cranberry sized bean that is grey/tan mottled with brick red spots and streaks. 18” tall plants. White blossoms with pinkish splotches on on upper petals. In 2015, plants had between 2-18 pods per plant. Green slightly curved pods. Pods have 5-7 beans each. Moderate producers. They work well as dry beans for burritos and chili. Seeds produced in 2023.
