VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-POLE
Pole, snap bean. Also used as a dry bean by the donor. Green beans are crunchy and juicy. Pods 5" long; 0.7" wide; green; flat; slightly curved. Most pods develop a light red blush and stripes at maturity. Generally 5-6 seeds per pod. Seeds are tan with brown stripes and grey flecking; large, plump, and oval. Very nice flavor and texture as a dry bean. Pink flowers. Plants are strong climbers. Medium productivity when grown in 2016 and 2023 at Heritage Farm. Early to mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE in 2014 by Ed Piatti of Kingsford, Michigan. Ed has maintained this variety since he began gardening as a child with his father in 1935. At that time, Ed's father (deceased) and Ed's grandfather, Maurizio Piatti (deceased) shared a large garden space in adjoining city lots in Iron Mountain, MI. The family story is that the bean variety came from Ed’s grandfather, Maurizio. Used by the family as a snap and dry bean. SSE Accession # 132338
