Batt's Wonder

Short, bushy plants up to 3 feet tall. Dark foliage. Small leaves, small pods (2-2.5 inches long). Pods are not particularly well-filled. 4-7 peas per pod. Disappointing flavor. Peas are rather starchy, astringent, and dry. One pod per peduncle. Low productivity. White flowers. Low vigor when grown in 2019 at Heritage Farm. Seeds are bluish-green and round with some dimples. This accession matches the description of Batt's wonder listed in Field and Garden Vegetables of America, 1863. SSE Accession # 114892
