VEGETABLES / LIMA-BEAN
POLE
Pole habit. Vigorous climber. Slightly curved pods, averaging 2.5-3.0" long and 1.7-2.0" wide. 2-3 seeds per pod. Medium beak. Average pod set. Non-pigmented, dark green plants. White flowers. Medium-sized seeds. Multiple seed colors: solid maroon-black; white/light tan with maroon mottling; and white/light tan with solid dark maroon-black hilum and keel. Solid-colored seeds have a mild nutty flavor, creamy texture, and thicker skin which holds the bean intact during cooking. Mid-season maturing. Donated to SSE in 2004 by Judith Conway (TN CO J2) who acquired it circa 2000 from Claude and Ida Lee of Huntland, TN. It was originally grown by Claude's grandmother. Ida operated a small café where she cooked and served these limas which they grew. SSE Accession # 112793
