Long Island Improved

Purple-top, cylindrical roots. Yellow bottoms and yellow flesh. Skin slightly coarse. Short neck. 4-6 inches long, 3-4 inches wide. Good, mild flavor though slightly bitter and earthy. Roots half-buried in the soil. Plants are compact with short tops. Petioles light purple to light green. Leaves tinged with purple at the margin. Plants reach 13-16 inches tall. SSE Accession # 119231
