VEGETABLES / BEAN
SNAP-BUSH
Snap. 90 days to first dry pods. 18 to 20 inch tall plants have a darker green foliage than many other varieties. Larger thicker pods than the miniature sized white seeded CdC. 6 inch green pods are tender, stringless, and of good flavor when cooked. This is the bean that is the female parent of Blue Jay not the miniature sized seeded variety that the Canadian gardeners, and seeds men believe is the parent of Blue Jay. When I had purchased CDC from Two Wings Farm I was a bit puzzled at the seed size. Having remembered a larger white seeded bean back in the day when I discovered Blue Jay seeds among one or two CDC plants. So this past winter of 2013 I decided to reacquire Comtesse de Chambord from Heritage Farm from my donations list, and when the seed arrived in the mail. Low, and behold the larger white seed I had remembered. I believe I had purchase the original seed from Le Jardin Du Gourment in 1975, as I had also purchased a lot of other French varieties they imported. Source: IA SSE HF ’13, SSE Bean 226
