SSE Sorghum 19. Seeds were last grown out in Decorah, IA in 2023. A beautiful broomcorn. Plants reach 8-9 ft tall and commonly have 2-3 tillers. Panicales branches (brush) are 17-21' long and have dark purple pigmentation. Panicles are 15-19' long. Brown, medium-sized grains are fully covered with black glumes. ~2600-3200 seeds per panicle. Difficult to thresh. Early maturing. Donated to SSE by Glenn Drowns (IA DR G) who aquired the variety from Loise Bastable (MA BA L). Bastable received it in 1988 from Charles Voight (IL VO C) who got it from Mr. and Mr. Louise Gyorkos, Essex, IL. They collected the seed while on a visit to Louis' brother who still lived in Hungary. SSE Accession #119297
