VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-POLE
Pole. This variety can be eaten dry or a snap bean. Dry beans have a great nutty flavor and smooth and creamy texture. Snap beans have few strings. Strongly climbing plants. Flowers are pink with a dark pink blotch in the center of standard. Constricted green pods mature to pale yellow with a dark purple dash pattern. Fully expanded pods measure 4.3-6" long and 0.5" wide. 5-7 seeds per pod. Seeds are small, oval, with a pinto like pattern of tan with dark blue/black dashes. Mid season maturity. Above average maturity when grown on Heritage Farm in 2017. Donated to SSE in 2006 by Gloria Gaffney of Asheville, North Carolina. Her grandfather (born in 1864) brought them to the U.S. in the late 1800s from Italy. Gloria believes these beans are likely from Nicstoro, in the Italian province of Cosenza. SSE Accession # 129175
