Moderately climbing vines. Flowers violet. Purple pigmentation on stems and pod tips. Pods 3-6" long, straight, and pendant. 1-2 pods per raceme and up to 12 seeds per pod. Dry pods straw-colored. Seeds solid black. Productivity intermediate and mid-season maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Dry beans have a robust flavor; tannic; smoky; dense and moist texture. Donated to SSE by Charlotte Hagood (AL HA C) who received this variety from Josie Cates Marbut Hawkins of Alabama City, AL in 1989. It was grown by the Cates family for 70+ years and was brought to Alabama from Tallapoosa, Georgia in the 1920s. SSE Accession # 109094
