A pole bean with a moderate climbing habit. This bean is described as both a dry and snap bean, though it is quite stringy and fibrous when eaten at the snap stage. Dry beans are small, solid white ovals. It is a mild, average flavored white bean. 5% were hard seeded. Pods are slightly curved. Pod length 4-5in. It is mid season maturing. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. Withee acquired this variety from RH Shumway Seed Company. Shumway described this variety as a good snap bean and sometimes used for dry beans. SSE Accession # 101004
