Long Crimson

Large round to oblong fruit with light green skin and dark green stripes. Fruit is fairly sweet with good standard watermelon taste. Flesh is somewhat stringy and softer. Fruit 6.5-10.5" long, 5.75-8" wide, and 5-12 lbs. Rind average thickness 0.5-0.6". Moderate productivity and mid season maturing when grown in 2014 at Heritage Farm. Smaller black seeds. Donated to SSE by Glenn Drowns (IA DR G). Introduced by the Coffey Seed Company of Plainview, TX; this variety was derived from an off type plant found in a field of 'Crimson Sweet' watermelon in 1973. SSE Accession # 127954
