Strongly climbing pole bean. Best used as a snap. Good flavor; moderate sweetness; firm texture. Light green; moderately constricted pods; smooth; straight; strong suture string. Fully expanded pods measure 3.4-4.2" long and 0.4-0.5" wide. Mature pods contain 7-8 seeds. Shiny; small; white; cuboid seeds. Hard seeded. Leaves dark green. White flowers. Moderate productivity. Late maturing snap beans. Donated to SSE in 1981 by bean collector John Withee of Lynnfield, Massachusetts and the Wanigan Associates. John received this variety from Silas Gilliam of Virginia in the late 1970s. Silas got the variety from Woofie Smith of Virginia and referred to it as an "old stand-by" in western Virginia.
