Ozark Witch Hazel

Hamamelis vernalis. Also known as winterbloom or vernal hazel; blooms as early as January in zone 6b. Distinguished most easily from H. virginiana by bloom time; also by habitat because H. vernalis in the wild is found almost exclusively near a creek or other body of water.
