Single Image
VEGETABLES / ONION
COMMON
Intermediate day onion. Light yellow-brown skin with white flesh. Round to slightly flattened in shape. At Heritage Farm, bulbs reach 2.5 inches long, 2.5-3.75 inches in diameter, and weigh up to 10 ounces. Strong tops do not fold. Bulbs would likely get larger in mid-latitudes. Fair storage qualities. This variety is similar to Stockton Yellow except that it is earlier maturing by about a week and is a little more variable for bulb shape. Good eating qualities. Acquired by SSE from Lockhart Seeds, Inc (CV Loc). A variety by this name is mentioned in the 2001 publication "History of Public Onion Breeding Programs in the United States" (by Goldman and Havey, UW-Madison), as a variety which was in circulation prior to 1945.
