Giant Red

Plants 3-4' tall, sometimes growing much taller. No lodging. Variation in degree of red pigmentation. Most plants have entirely red stems and mostly red pods. Some plants have greener stems and entirely green pods. Downy pods with 6-9 ridges. Mix of curved and straight pods. Seed mature pods reach 10-12" long and 1" in diameter. Best eaten under 5". Very good flavor. Sweet, floral aftertaste. Low mucosity. Donated to SSE by C.C. Thompson. It was acquired by Thompson's father from a family friend circa 1920s/1930s. SSE Accession # 113990
