Bjorn's Black

VEGETABLES / BEAN
DRY-BUSH
WI BE B History: I rescued the seed from Lapham Elementary School Garden, Madison, WI in October 2011. I've grown them every year since and they are true to type. In 2016, I grew them side by side with Black Valentine and discovered that they are not SSE Black Valentine Beans. Overall notes: (Phaseolus vulgaris) Jet black turtle beans. 20-36” tall plants. In years where they get watered a lot, they can get up to 36 inches tall and produce runners and need support. Pink blossoms. Green, slightly curved pods. In 2014, each plant had between 15-60 bean pods on each plant. Pods have 6 beans each. Extremely productive. They are great for using in burritos and for making soups. This is my favorite culinary bean in my collection.
