Romaine. Degree of leaf pigmentation depends upon environmental conditions. Color ranges from green with slight red tinge to almost solid burgundy. Smooth, spatulate leaves have a moderately undulating leaf margin. Plants average 5" tall and 14" in diameter. Largest leaves average 7.6" long by 4.7" wide. Standard texture and flavor. Thick leaves, but not overly tough. Slightly bitter. Given to SSE by Ed Nute. Originally collected at a St. Petersburg flower market in April 1993. SSE Accession # 111917
