Small pickling cucumber. Fruit are dark green at the stem end and fade to white at the blossom end with green speckling. Fruit have elevated warts with black spines and superficial ribbing. Best picked when 5" long or smaller. Seed mature fruit reach 8-9" long, 3.5" wide and are solid orange-brown. Plants are highly vining. Medium-high productivity when grown in 2016 at Heritage Farm. Fair flavor, slightly sweet, moderately bitter skin, crisp. Early maturing. This variety matches historical commercial descriptions of the same name, although our fruit did not set in clusters as described. Donated to SSE by Will Bonsall (ME BO W) who requested this variety from the USDA collection. A variety by this name has been exchanged in the SSE Yearbook Exchange for more than 20 years.
