VEGETABLES / LEEK
Long, moderately thick, solid stems. High quality leek. No basal stem swelling. Relatively uniform, with some differences in stem length and thickness. Strong, stiff leaves are blue-green and semi-upright. Medium-tall plants. Sweet, pungent flavor. Member Suzanne Ashworth (CA AS S) shared this variety with SSE after she received it in the early 1980's from a Sacramento area gardener named Esther Cook. Esther had entered the leek in the vegetable section in a local fair competition where Suzanne was one of the judges. Suzanne said although the leek was not the largest, it was just what a well-grown leek should be. It was originally brought to the U.S. from Yugoslavia by Cook's family. SSE Accession # 133568
