Georgia Blue Stem

Vegetables / The Cabbage Family (Brassicaceae) / Collard

Leaves are blue-green to green with white midribs. Leaves have medium thickness, narrow petioles, and high leaf bloom. Leaves are obovate in shape and have a round toothed margin. Plants measure 19.5-28" tall and 33-43" wide. Leaves measure 19-25" long and 8.5-12.5" wide. Grown in Fall 2015 and Spring 2023 at Heritage Farm. Sweet and juicy collard liked by many SSE staff in 2015. This collard variety was donated to Seed Savers Exchange by Exchange lister Robert Wood (KS WO R) of Moran, Kansas. Unfortunately, we do not know how Mr. Wood received this variety, but historic references to 'Blue Stem' and 'Georgia Blue Stem' collards in the United States pre-date 1900. SSE Accession # 107836
