The Earlirouge tomato was released in 1977 by Jack Metcalf of the Agriculture Canada Smithfield Experimental Farm, in Trenton, Ontario. It was probably the most commercially successful release of the eight or nine open pollinated tomato varieties developed and released there from 1967 to 1993. Like most of Metalf's cultivars, Earlirouge features deep red interiors and excellent flavor for canning or fresh use. (Original source: CV, Stokes Seeds, 1987) This seed was grown out from seed frozen since 1988! (Crop failure in 2016. Seed offered produced in 2015.)
